Featured Forest: Support group for parents of autistic individuals

As a parent of an autistic individual, the journey can be challenging and overwhelming. You may feel isolated and misunderstood, but you are not alone. There is a supportive community of parents out there who share similar experiences, challenges, and successes. That's why we are excited for our upcoming Forest, "Support group for parents of autistic individuals with Shani & Desirae."

Shani and Desirae are both experienced professionals in the field of autism who are dedicated to empowering individuals on the spectrum and their caregivers. Shani has a Masters in Clinical Psychology and is currently a consultant/supervisor at Els for Autism South Africa, where she has been part of the team for 10 years. She has also studied applied behavior analysis, which has helped her better understand evidence-based practices and their application within the field of autism. Desirae is head of parent support at Parent Reality, an NPC supporting parents with children with disabilities, and is in full-time ministry for families who have a child or spouse with special needs and for women who have experienced trauma.

During this free, moderated, and supportive group session, Shani and Desirae will provide a safe space for parents to share their experiences, challenges, and successes. They will offer guidance and support to help parents feel empowered in their parenting journey. Topics that will be covered include understanding autism, navigating the education system, managing challenging behaviors, and finding self-care and support.

If you are a parent of an autistic individual and would like to join this supportive community, tune in to the Forest tomorrow (20/04/2023) at 8pm SAST / 7pm BST.

Add to your calendar or set a reminder by visiting the Forest page.
